History

Our history goes back quite a ways.

Strickland Homes really started with Scott Strickland as a trim carpenter in the early 70’s. Scott saw an opportunity to enter the home building industry in 1978, and with his business partner, they started Commonwealth Custom Home Builders. The company was at the forefront of the local building market; participating in Homearama’s and winning accolades for their commitment to quality. For much of the company’s 30-year history, Alan worked as the superintendent. As Scott and his partner began to look towards retirement, they dissolved the company, and Scott and Alan started Strickland Homes in 2010. Scott has maintained a role that utilizes his vast knowledge but has backed out of the day-to-day to focus on retirement. Lorraine Carter joined Strickland Homes in 2020 as a way to help balance the workload and to maximize Alan and Lorraine’s complementary skill sets. Strickland Homes won awards in the 2012, 2013, and 2015 Homearamas. Alan and Lorraine continue the commitment to quality that started with Scott in 1978.
